111 - Bhagvat Gita 1.19

111 - Bhagvat Gita 1.19

 
 

Jab Paandav ki sena ne apne apne shankho ko bajaaya to badi bhayankar, daraoni dhwani huwi jis ko sun kar Kaurav sena ke yodhaao ke mun mein vyagrata (confusion), chinta aur ashanti (anxiety) bhar gayi. 
Kaurav sena ki jab shankh baji thi to aisa koi baat nahi likhi thi ki Pandav sena bhaybheet ho gaye. Paanch Pandav (5 senses) ke senapati (controlled by) Sri Krishna (gyan) hay. Jab mun mein gyan utpan ho jayga to Indriyan bus mein kiya ja sakta hay. Ek sow Kaurav (100 Kaurav) hi hamare andar ke buri bhali kaamnaaye hay, Indriyon ko shaant karne ke liye ek se ek itchaaye mun mein uthti hay. Jeeb (toungue) swaad chahta hay, Kaan (ears) ulta-seedha sunnana chahta hay, Aankh (eyes)  sundarta dekhna chata hay..etc. Hamari urja (energy) bas inhi ke peeche bhagti rahti hay. 
Jab Prabhu ko mun mein basa lenge, kuch gyan badhega to dheere dheere Indriyon ko bas mein kiya ja sakta hay. Jab puri tarah se gyan pak jaaye, Prabhu mun mein bas jaaye, to phir kaamnaao (wishes) ke peeche bhagna band ho jaata hay. 


When the Pandav sena blew their respective conches (Shankha), there was an extremely frightening and intimidating sound which broke the confidence and courage of the Kaurav warriors. When the Kaurav soldiers blew their conches (in 1.12), there was no mention of any anxiety in the Pandav warriors.
The 5 Pandavs are like our 5 senses, being controlled by Sri Krishna (who symbolises knowledge). These disobedient senses can only be disciplined by spiritual knowledge and dedication. The 100 Kauravs represent the multitude of wishes and urges we get everyday from our senses. The tongue wants numerous tasty stuff, the ears want to listen to gossip and cheap sleazy talk, the eyes want to see material beauty, the skin wants to touch, or be touched by, beautiful species from the opposite s3x. Our energy and efforts are continually used up in trying to fulfill the unquenchable thirst of our senses.
When we are armed with knowledge (Prabhu) then it becomes possible to tame these senses, with sufficient dedication and determination.

द्रुपदो द्रौपदेयाश्च  सर्वश: पृथिविपते।
सौभाद्रश्च  महाबाहु: शंखान्द्धमू: पृथक्पृथक।।  1.18
 
द्रुपद: - राजा द्रुपद ;  - एवं ; द्रौपदेया: - द्रोपदी के पांचों पुत्र; च - और ; महाबाहु: - बड़ी भुजा वाले; सौभद्र: - सुभद्रा पुत्र अभिमन्यु (इन सभी ने); पृथ्वीपते - हे राजन !; सर्वश: - सब ओरसे; पृथक-पृथक - अलग अलग; शंखान - शंख; द्ध्मु: = बजाया ।
 
Who else are in the Pandava’s army ?
King Durpad himself. 
Drowpadeyaashch – the five sons of Dropadi (Waatsalye, Laawanye, Shrdayta, Saumyata, Sthirta).
Sowbhadrashch Mahabaahu – Subhadra putra Abhimanyu with wide shoulders & strong hands.
The trans-visionary Sanjay relates to king (Prithiwipate) Dhritraastra (one who refuses to see the correct path) that all these great and mighty warriors blew (Dadhmu) their respective (Prithak prithak) shankhs (Shankhaan).
 
Sanjay relates to King Dhritrastra. King Drupad (Dropadi’s father), the 5 sons of Dropadi, and the powerful and mighty Abhimanyu - son of Subhadra & Arjun, they all blew their respective conch shells.

Dhrishtdhyumno  Viraatshch Saatyakishchaparajit. . 1.17
 
काश्यश्च  पर्मेष्वास:  शिखंडी  च  महारथा: । 
धृष्टध्युमनों  विराटश्च  सात्यकीश्चापराजित: । ।  1.17
 
 
In 1.12 Pitamah Bhishma blows his Singhnaad shankh (Fear). In 1.13 the rest of the Kauravas make a huge noise (no real promise of any substance) with whatever instrument they had in their possession.
1n 1.14 to 1.16  the greats of the Pandav Army -  Sri Krishna, Arjun, and the rest of the Pandavas blow their meaningful conches in succession. 
 
In chapter 1.17 & 1.18 we meet the other great warriors of the Pandav army.
King of Kaashi (Kaashyeshch) was an excellent archer (Parmeshwaasah). 
 
Shikhandi was a Maharathi - great in chariot warfare. He was originally the daughter (Amba) of king Kaashi who was embarrassed by Bhishma during a wedding ceremony. She vowed to avenge her humiliation by being the cause of Bhishma’s death, and was later reborn as an effeminate (gay) brother of Dropadi. People may say that gays (& lesbians) may not have a place in our society. Mahabharat & Gita show that all human beings are equally acceptable to God. Shikhandi was on the same chariot as Sri Krishna & Arjun when Bhishma was defeated. He represents belief. If you really believe in something, even if it takes a few reincarnations, you continue to proceed towards your goal and eventually you shall succeed.
 
Dropadi’s brother the brave Dhristdhymna.
Powerful king Viraat (where the Pandavas spent their anonymous exile).
 
Satyeki is referred to as Aparajit – one who cannot be defeated. He represents truth – when one follows the path of truth, one cannot be defeated. We met him in 1.4 as Yuyudhaan.

108 - Bhagvat Gita 1.16


अनंत  विजयं  राजा कुंती  पुत्रो  युधिष्ठिरः  
नकुलः  सहदेव  श्च   सुघोष  मणि  पुष्पकौ ।।16।।

Anant Vijyam Raja Kunti Putro Yudhishthiraha.
Nakulah Sahdevshch Sughosh Mani Pushpakow.

कुंती पुत्रः - Kunti Putrah (Son of Kunti), राजा - Raja (King); युधिष्ठिरः – Yudhisthir (ने - ne); अनंत  विजयं नामक (शंख  बजाया तथा- Anant Vijyam (Blew a Shankh named “Always wins, Never loses”, “Endless peace”).
नकुलः – Nakul;   – cha (और); सहदेव – Sahdev (ने - ne); सुघोष – Sughosh; मणिपुष्पक – Manipushpak नामक (शंख  बजाये).

Son of Kunti, King Yudhishthir, blew a conch named “Anant Vijay”. Anant means endless and Anant is also one of many names of God. “Hari Anant Hari Katha Ananta”. King Yudhishthir lets the people know that those who follow us (in today's analogy - those who vote for us) will get endless peace, will never lose, and I (the king) will be able to let “you” meet & greet with God (Anant). Only those who find God find endless inner peace. Finding God means being at ease and in peace with EVERYTHING and EVERYBODY around us.

If we cause grief and pain to others in the name of religion, if our religious belief does not allow us to tolerate and respect those around us, then we may not be getting the correct translation of our wonderful religious scriptures.

Nakul blows his conch named SughoshSu means beautiful and Ghosh means message. There is only onebeautiful message – the message from God. The good and great messages in our scriptures, that are designed to make our lives beautiful – ALWAYS !
Sahdev blows his conch named “Mani Pushpak”. This is really hard to explain but I will attempt my best. Mani means valuable. One of the meanings of Pushpak is AirValuable Air – is our valuable breath (Swaas), that we take in every few seconds. Sahdev promises an unending supply of swaas, a long peaceful, happy life.

PS – Pushpak Vimaan – A craft that can float in air, or move as fast as wind.

107 - Bhagvad Gita 1.15

Bhagvad Gita 1.15


पाञ्च्जन्यम हृषीकेशो देवदत्तं धनञ्जयः।
पौंड्रम दध्मौ महाशंख्म भीमकर्मा वृकोदरः।।15।।

Paanchjanyam Hrishikesho Devdattam Dhananjayam
Powndram Dadhmow Mahashankham Bhimkarma Vrukodarah

हृषीकेशः = अन्तर्यामी भगवान् श्री कृष्ण ने पाञ्च्जन्यम = पाञ्चजन्य नामक (तथा) धनञ्जयः = धनंजय अर्जुन ने; देवदत्तं = देवदत्त नामक शंख बजाया (और); भीमकर्मा = भयानक कर्म करने वालेवृकोदर: = वृकोदर भीम ने; पौंड्रम = पौण्ड्र नामकमहाशंख्म = महा शंख; दध्मौ = बजाया।

Shri Krishna (Hrishikesh) blew His shankh named Paanchjanya. Arjun (Dhananjay) puffed on his shankh called Devdatt. Mighty Bhim bellowed on his shankh called Powndra.

One of Shri Krishna’s many names is Hrishikesh, which means one who knows everything about our innerself (Hriday). All the things we say or even just think about, He knows. His shankh is called Paanchjanya. In today’s analogy the blowing of the conch shells is similar to the pre-election political speeches. If you vote for me, this is what I will do for you.
Paanchjanya means controlling the five (paanch) senses. By blowing the Paanchjanya, Sri Krishna is telling His disciples, the righteous people, that if you submit to me (vote for me) then I will control your senses. Those who are able to control their senses will triumph over their internal enemies, the evil within us.
The evil Kauravas have a much greater army (11 mighty armies) while the Pandavas had only 7. By befriending Sri Krishna they were able to defeat the Kauravas.

Arjun (Dhananjay) blows his shankh called Devdatt, which means one who will take you on the path of the Devtas – the right and truthful path. The other path is for the Raakshas. If you follow me I will be able to lead you towards eternal peace and harmony.
Bhim’s shankh was called Powndra, meaning love, affection & adoration (Preeti). If you follow us (the Pandavas) we will eliminate fear from within you and fill it with love and affection. A soul without love will not be able to find eternal peace and harmony.

106 - Bhagvat Gita Chapter 1.14

Bhagvad Gita 1.14

तत: श्वेतैर्हयैर्युक्ते महति स्य्नदने स्थितौ।
माधव: पाण्डवश्चैव दिव्यौ शंखौ  प्रदध्मतु :।।14।।

तत: - उसके बाद (After that); श्वेतै: - सफ़ेद (white, pure); हयै: - घोड़ोसे (horses)युक्ते - युक्त (with);महति - महान (great); स्य्नदने - रथ पर  (on the chariot)स्थितौ - बैठे हुवे (sitting); माधव: - लक्ष्मीपति भगवान श्रीकृष्ण (Shri Krishna);   - और (and); पाण्डव: - पांडु पुत्र अर्जुन (Arjun); एव - भी (also, as well); दिव्यौ - दिव्य (heavenly); शंखौ  - शंखो को (Conch shell); प्रदध्मतु : - बड़े जोरसे बजाया (blew it with great gusto).

After the poilitical speech (in the form of Shankh Dhwani) was completed by the evil Duryodhan’s army, the “virtuous” army of the Pandavas led by God Himself, accompanied by Arjun, riding on the majestic and heavenly chariot, drawn by divine looking white horses, blew their respective holy conches with immense passion and enthusiasm. This is to encourage and incite the people of the world to awaken the good inside them. Making a plea to the people to join the morally correct people and help eradicate or subside the evil within us and within our surrounds.
The Shankh is Divye (heavenly) or Alowkik (अलौकिक), which means not from any of the three loks (Mrityulok, Devlok or Brahmalok).
We have “Shankh Alowkik”, “Rath Alowkik”, God himself Alowkik – therefore the proclamation made by sounding the shankh is also Alowkik.
White signifies purity of heart, cleanliness of mind and freedom from fear. Only a person with such qualities will be able to lead us on the correct path.

ततः शंखाश्च भेर्यश्च पंवान्कगोमुखा: 
सहसैवाभ्यहन्यन्त स शब्द्स्तुमुलो अभवत ।।१३।।

Tatah Shankhaashch Bheryashch Panwaankagomukhaah
Sahsaywaabhyahanyant sa Shabdstumulo abhawat

ततः (Tatah ) - उस के बाद (after that); शंखः (Shankhaah) – Conch shell;  (Cha) – और (and or also); भेर्यः(Bheryah) - भेरी (नगाड़े) – like a bugle; ;  (Cha) – तथा (and or also); पंवान्कगोमुखा:(Panwaankagomukhaah) – ढोल, मृदंग और नरसिंघे बाजे – many types of drums; सहसा (Sahsa) -एक साथ (all together); एव – हीअभ्यहन्यन्त (abhyahanyant) - बज उठे (made noises); स: - वह(that); शब्दः (Shabds) – शब्द (noise); तुमुलः (tumulo) - बड़ा भयंकर (extremely noisy); अभवत(abhawat) – हुआ (happened).

पितामह  भीष्म  ने  सिंघनाद  नामक  शंख  बजायाजो  घोषित  किया  की  इस  युद्ध  को  जीतने  के  बाद  हम  आप  को  भय  और  भ्रम  ही  प्रदान  करेंगे .
उन  के  बाद  कौरोवों की  और  से  कोई  विशेष  शंख  या  घोषणा  नहीं  हवी. एक  साथ  अनेक  ढोल,बाजेनागाड़े बजाय  गए. इन  सब  कि  आवाज़  या  ध्वनि  अति  भयंकर  और  डरावनी  थी. हमारे  अंदर  अगर  बुरे  ख़याल  और  कामक्रोधलोभमोह  आदि  विकारों  का  विजय  होगाबढ़ावा  होगा  तो  हम  भी  भयभ्रम  और  दुःख  कि  प्राप्ति  करेंगे .

Pitamah Bhishma ne Singhnaad naamak shankh bajaaya, jo ghoshit kiya ki is yudh ko jeetne ke baad hum aap ko bhay aur bhram hi pradaan karenge.
Un ke baad Kauroyon ki or se koi vishesh shankh ya ghoshna nahi huwi. Ek saath anek dhol, baaje, naagaade bajaay gaye. In sab ka awaaz ya dhwani ati bhayankar aur daraoni thi. Hamaare ander agar bure khayaal aur Kaam, Krodh, Lobh, Moh aadi vikaaron ka vijay hoga, badhaawa hoga to hum bhi bhay, bhram aur dukh ki praapti karenge.

Mahabharat is a continuous fight between good and evil – In our own minds, in our families, in our neighbourhoods, community etc. Only great knowledge will permit you to differentiate between good and evil. If you don’t have the right knowledge, do your best to find someone who does. Pandavas sought the knowledge and experience of Mahaguru and eventually defeated the extremely evil and powerful army. Be careful of imitation – choose your gyandata carefully. It is better to have less knowledge than the wrong knowledge.
