38 - CHACHUNDAR - The Myth Busted !

CHACHUNDAR - The Myth Busted !

We have grown up hearing this word being used as a derogatory term for a female. Our research has uncovered some interesting facts - you may be pleasantly surprised.

Chachundar is actually a furry Rat (or Rodent) - very similar to a Genus Suncus (a very rare picture found in the archives is attached for your visual pleasure !)

In ancient Indian folk stories the Chachundar was a spikey rat, somewhat like an Echidna, with sharp needle-like fur coating. Rats are a staple diet of snakes. Shambhu Ji ke gale mein jo Shesh Ji hay, wo hamesha Ganesh Ji ke sawaari (moose) ko dekhte rahte hay, man hi man lalchaa rahe hay !

When a snake swallows (they do not chew) the Chachundar it goes somewhat inside the snake's mouth, gets angry, then expands it's sharp fur. The needle-like fur gets entangled in the snakes stomach. It can neither swallow any further or spit it out - it is just stuck there. This is beyond the control of the snake. This causes the snake great pain and discomfort. Eventually they both die in this entangled position.

How did this get into the Indian vocabulary ?

Traditionally, the macho man has been the invincible hero of the family unit. (Although the tradition is being broken somewhat too fast for some people's liking ! - many families, nowdays, have the female as the "real" head, the humble "man" is just the figurehead).

The macho man has been somewhat "allowed" to behave like a monkey, it has been tradionally acceptable for the male to have affairs and have multiple mistressses. This has been the case in most cultures. As long as the faithful "Sati Savitri" female of the house is pure, and free of any wrong-doings, the family unit is able to survive.

When the female of the family (Chachundar) does not listen to the husband (Snake), has an affair or relations outside the marriage, or does things that bring disrepute to the family, the "Macho Man" becomes uncomfortable and his image is on shaky ground. The relationship weakens and finally breaks up the family unit. They both lose out.

He is unable to leave her nor able to live with her for the fear of being ridiculed by the society.

"Chachundar Pan" is described as the uneasy, discomfort, desolate and forlorn feeling experienced by the man.

37 - Bakre Ka Balidaan

Bakre Ka Balidaan

There are references of Balidaan in Hindi scriptures, involving goats, horses etc.
Balidaan means sacrifice, give up, let go, tyaag.

The humle Bakra (goat) has been the animal of choice as offering of sacrifice to the demigods. Later chicken (Murga) and other animals were slaughtered.

Goat is the symbol of Abhimaan, Ahankaar, Ghamand.

When the Vedas & Puraans refer to “Bakre ka Balidaan” they mean apne Abhimaan, Ahankaar, Ghamand ka tyaag (balidaan) karo. Apne ander jo kaalima (evil thoughts) ko nikaalo.

If the word is broken up, Bali Daan, then it means donate or offer blood. This does not seem to be the intended meaning in the scriptures. How can one achieve happiness, anand, eternal bliss by killing another living soul ? One, however, can be very happy and enjoy life if one is able to control their ego, pride, Abhimaan, Ahankaar, Ghamand !!!

A bit of light reading for those wanting a bit more related info…..

36 - The Divorce

Something I received in an email........

To those who are married, .. Not married .. and soon to be married

MARRIAGE

When I got home that night as my wife served dinner, I held her hand and said, I've got something to tell you. She sat down and ate quietly. Again I observed the hurt in her eyes.
Suddenly I didn't know how to open my mouth. But I had to let her know what I was thinking. I want a divorce.. I raised the topic calmly.
She didn't seem to be annoyed by my words, instead she asked me softly, why?
I avoided her question. This made her angry. She threw away the chopsticks and shouted at me, you are not a man! That night, we didn't talk to each other. She was weeping. I knew she wanted to find out what had happened to our marriage. But I could hardly give her a satisfactory answer; she had lost my heart to Dew. I didn't love her anymore. I just pitied her!
With a deep sense of guilt, I drafted a divorce agreement which stated that she could own our house, our car, and 30% stake of my company.
She glanced at it and then tore it into pieces. The woman who had spent ten years of her life with me had become a stranger. I felt sorry for her wasted time, resources and energy but I could not take back what I had said for I loved Dew so dearly. Finally she cried loudly in front of me, which was what I had expected to see. To me her cry was actually a kind of release. The idea of divorce which had obsessed me for several weeks seemed to be firmer and clearer now.
The next day, I came back home very late and found her writing something at the table. I didn't have supper but went straight to sleep and fell asleep very fast because I was tired after an eventful day with Dew.
When I woke up, she was still there at the table writing. I just did not care so I turned over and was asleep again.
In the morning she presented her divorce conditions: she didn't want anything from me, but needed a month's notice before the divorce.
She requested that in that one month we both struggle to live as normal a life as possible. Her reasons were simple: our son had his exams in a month's time and she didn't want to disrupt him with our broken marriage.
This was agreeable to me. But she had something more, she asked me to recall how I had carried her into out bridal room on our wedding day.
She requested that everyday for the month's duration I carry her out of our bedroom to the front door ever morning. I thought she was going crazy. Just to make our last days together bearable I accepted her odd request.
I told Dew about my wife's divorce conditions... She laughed loudly and thought it was absurd. No matter what tricks she applies, she has to face the divorce, she said scornfully..
My wife and I hadn't had any body contact since my divorce intention was explicitly expressed. So when I carried her out on the first day, we both appeared clumsy. Our son clapped behind us, daddy is holding mummy in his arms. His words brought me a sense of pain. From the bedroom to the sitting room, then to the door, I walked over ten meters with her in my arms. She closed her eyes and said softly; don't tell our son about the divorce. I nodded, feeling somewhat upset. I put her down outside the door. She went to wait for the bus to work. I drove alone to the office.
On the second day, both of us acted much more easily. She leaned on my chest. I could smell the fragrance of her blouse. I realized that I hadn't looked at this woman carefully for a long time.. I realized she was not young any more. There were fine wrinkles on her face, her hair was graying! Our marriage had taken its toll on her. For a minute I wondered what I had done to her.
On the fourth day, when I lifted her up, I felt a sense of intimacy returning. This was the woman who had given ten years of her life to me.
On the fifth and sixth day, I realized that our sense of intimacy was growing again. I didn't tell Dew about this. It became easier to carry her as the month slipped by. Perhaps the everyday workout made me stronger.
She was choosing what to wear one morning. She tried on quite a few dresses but could not find a suitable one. Then she sighed, all my dresses have grown bigger. I suddenly realized that she had grown so thin, that was the reason why I could carry her more easily.
Suddenly it hit me... she had buried so much pain and bitterness in her heart. Subconsciously I reached out and touched her head.
Our son came in at the moment and said, Dad, it's time to carry mum out. To him, seeing his father carrying his mother out had become an essential part of his life. My wife gestured to our son to come closer and hugged him tightly. I turned my face away because I was afraid I might change my mind at this last minute. I then held her in my arms, walking from the bedroom, through the sitting room, to the hallway. Her hand surrounded my neck softly and naturally. I held her body tightly; it was just like our wedding day.
But her much lighter weight made me sad. On the last day, when I held her in my arms I could hardly move a step. Our son had gone to school. I held her tightly and said, I hadn't noticed that our life lacked intimacy.
I drove to office.... jumped out of the car swiftly without locking the door. I was afraid any delay would make me change my mind... I walked upstairs. Dew opened the door and I said to her, Sorry, Dew, I do not want the divorce anymore.
She looked at me, astonished, and then touched my forehead. Do you have a fever? She said. I moved her hand off my head. Sorry, Dew, I said, I won't divorce. My marriage life was boring probably because she and I didn't value the details of our lives, not because we didn't love each other any more. Now I realize that since I carried her into my home on our wedding day I am supposed to hold her until death do us apart.
Dew seemed to suddenly wake up. She gave me a loud slap and then slammed the door and burst into tears. I walked downstairs and drove away.
At the floral shop on the way, I ordered a bouquet of flowers for my wife. The salesgirl asked me what to write on the card. I smiled and wrote, I'll carry you out every morning until death do us apart.
That evening I arrived home, flowers in my hands, a smile on my face, I run up stairs, only to find my wife in the bed - dead.

The small details of your lives are what really matter in a relationship. It is not the mansion, the car, property, the money in the bank, blah..blah..blah. These create an environment conducive for happiness but cannot give happiness in themselves. So find time to be your spouse's friend and do those little things for each other that build intimacy. Do have a real happy marriage!
If you don't share this, nothing will happen to you.
If you do, you just might save a marriage.

35 - Us Ko Nahi Dekha Hamne Kabhi

Whenever this lovely, heart-touching song plays on the airwaves, every loving child remembers their beautiful Mum !

Us ko nahi dekha hamne kabhi, Par isaki zaroorat kya hogi
Ay maan, Ay maan teri soorat se alag
Bhagwaan ki soorat kya hogee, kya hogi
Us ko nahi dekha hamne kabhi...
Inasaan to kya devata bhi, aanchal mein pale tere
Hai swarg isi duniya mein, kadamon ke tale tere
Mamata hi lutaaye jisake nayan, hoooo...
Mamata hi lutaaye jisake nayan, aisi koi moorat kya hogi
Ay maan, ay maan teri soorat se alag…..
Kyon dhoop jalaaye dukhon ki, kyon gam ki ghata barase
Ye haath duaaon waale rahate hain sada sar pe
Tu hai to andhere path mein hamein, hooo...
Tu hai to andhere path mein hamein, sooraj ki zaroorat kya hogi
Ay maan, ay maan teri soorat se alag…..
Kahate hain teri shaan mein jo koi oonche bol nahi
Bhagwaan ke paas bhi maata tere pyaar ka mol nahi
Ham to yahi jaane tujhase badee, hooo...
Ham to yahi jaane tujhase badi sansaar ki daulat kya hogi
Ay maan, ay maan teri soorat se alag…..

Attempted Translation Us ko nahi dekha hamne kabhi (kis ko nahi dekha ? Prabhu ko), Par isaki zaroorat kya hogi
Ay maan, Ay maan teri soorat se alag
Bhagwaan ki soorat kya hogee, kya hogi
Us ko nahi dekha hamne kabhi...

Hamne kabhi Prabhu ko nahi dekhe (some people may claim otherwise) magar he Maa! aap ki hamesha khili soorat dekh kar, muskuraahat dekh kar hame itna pyaar, sukh, anand milat hay ki chaahe  Prabhu mile ya na mile par itna zaroor jaanat hay ki Un ka chehra aap ke chehre se zaroor milat hoga !
Ghar mein paise nahi hoy, sauda nahi hoy par aap ki chehre par udaasi nahi dekhe ham ne. Saari pariwaar ko kush karti ho par apna dukh kisi ko nahi bataati !
Inasaan to kya devata bhi, aanchal mein pale tere
Hai swarg isi duniya mein, kadamon ke tale tere
Mamata hi lutaaye jisake nayan, hoooo...
Mamata hi lutaaye jisake nayan, aisi koi moorat kya hogi
Ay maan, ay maan teri soorat se alag…..
Teri aanchal itna vishaal hay ki insaan to kya Devta bhi samaa jaaye. Tere kadmon mein sar rakh kar jab ham soowat rahe to saare sansaar ka, swarg ka sukh mahsoos karat rahe.
Apni mamta, pyaar, sneh apne pariwaar par lutaati rahti ho. Naino se aansoo bahat rahe par mukh se muskaan na jaat hay. Aap pyaar ki moorat ho !

Kyon dhoop jalaaye dukhon ki, kyon gam ki ghata barase
Ye haath duaaon waale rahate hain
sada sar pe
Tu hai to andhere path mein hamein, hooo...
Tu hai to andhere path mein hamein, sooraj ki zaroorat kya hogi
Ay maan, ay maan teri soorat se alag…..

Dukho ki dhoop ham ko kaise jalaa sakegi ? Gam aur udaasi ki hawaa ham ko kaise sataa sakegi ? Aap to apne haatho se, duwaao ke aanchal se hame sambhaal rakha hay ! Aap ke paawan pavitra haath sada apne baccho aur pariwaar ke khushiyo ki bheekh maangte hay - apne liye kabhi kuch maanga hi nahi !
Aap ke praathna mein itni shakti hay, aap ke chehre ki muskuraahat mein itni roshni hay ki dukh aur ghabraahat ke andhere hame choo bhi na sakat hay. Saara jeewan unjaala hi unjaala lagat hay !

Kahate hain teri shaan mein jo koi oonche bol nahi
Bhagwaan ke paas bhi maata tere pyaar ka mol nahi
Ham to yahi jaane tujhase badee, hooo...
Ham to yahi jaane tujhase badi sansaar ki daulat kya hogi
Ay maan, ay maan teri soorat se alag…..

Agar koi aap ki taareef kare, badaai karna chaahe to koi aisa shabd ya bhasha nahi jo aap ki mamta ko vyekt kar sakat hay. He meri maiya ! Teri mamta, tera pyaar anmol hay. Agar Bhagwaan aap ke pyaar ke badle saare sansaar ka sukh, saare sansaar ki daulat bhi de, to har bhagyewaan santaan hamesha aap ke pyaar ko hi chunega.
Aap hame pakad kar, dabaa kar, hospital mein injection lagwaati thi - galati se ham samjhe ki aap hame pyaar nahi karat hay - baad mein jaane ki ye bhi aap ka pyaar hi tha - ki kahi aap ke baccho par koi beemaari na aaye !

Aap ko laakh laakh chummi !

34 - Witchdoctors, Priests Facing Rape Charges

A news article in recent Fiji newspapers (attached below) should be of concern to all. This is not a problem for our Fiji, but it is an epidermic in all parts of the world, all cultures where people have less formal education. Fiji Indians (all over the world) are relatively well educated, yet our infatuation with Ojhas is second to none. That is a great concern.

Why would people go to a Ojha or to other people claiming to have superior powers of healing and claiming to have the ability to change your destiny ?

All religious scriptures are very clear - only YOU have the power to alter your destiny. Only YOU can make youself happy. If you are getting happiness from other sources then that period of happiness will be limited and short, after that you will feel unhappy again.

This is an excerpt from The Ramayan ....
दो0-जे परिहरि हरि हर चरन भजहिं भूतगन घोर।
तेहि कइ गति मोहि देउ बिधि जौं जननी मत मोर।।2/167।।

Je Parihari Hari Har Charan, Bhajahi Bhootgan Ghor
Tehi Kai Gati Mohi Deu Bidhi, Jo Janini mat mor !

Bharat ji ka gati par bichaar kare. Maata Kekei ne Praan-piyare bhai Ram, Mata Sita, Bhai Latchman ko bun bhej diya. Pita ji ka dehaant ho gaya. Ye sab kewal Bharat to Raja banane ke liye ! Sabhi log sandeh ki nazar se unhe dekhte hay ki kahi Bharat ka koi haath to nahi ?

Kaushalya mata ke gord mein ro raha hay, aansoo bah rahe hay, aur kahta hay ki he maa, jo kuch kutil Kekei ne kiya us mein mera koi haath nahi hay. Agar mera koi sambandh ho is shaadish mein, to Bidhi (Brahma) mujhe wo saza de, dand de, dukh de, jo un logo ko milta hay jo Prabhu (Hari Har) ko chord (parihari) kar Bhoot, Pisaach, Ojha mein biswaas karte hay !

Us pita ke maansik haalat (mental condition) kya hoga jo apni jawaan beti ko ek Ojha ke paas raat bhar chord de ?

Jo dukhi hote hay, bahut dino se bimaar hote hay, pariwaar mein jhagda jhanjhat hota ho, Pati-Patni mein bichord ho raha ho, Bacche baat nahi sun rahe ho - apni man maani kar rahe ho - aise deen, dukhi, besahare, tadapte log Ojha ke paas jaate hay. Jald hi parinaam chahte hay - quick fix !

THEY do not force us to go to them - we choose to go to them ! WE have to change !

Sukh mein Prabhu ko yaad karo, dukh mein Wahi aap ka sahara banega.

Apne pariwaar mein (Dada, Aja, Aji), gao (village) mein, Mandali mein - kisi gyani ke saath satsangh kar.  Apne baccho ke liye, naati, pooto ke liye samay nikaaliye - un ko achi achi kahani bataaiye !

Fijian Witchdoctors, Priests Facing Rape Charges On The Rise

SUVA – A witch doctor is under police investigation for allegedly
raping a sick girl who was taken to him for healing by her parents.
Police said it was not the first such case that had happened, as some
witchdoctors and priests had been charged within the last month for
similar incidents.
The alleged incident happened at Cunningham Road in Suva last month
and the girl’s parents reported the matter to police.
Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said the witchdoctor told
the girl’s parents to leave her with him that day and to pick her up
the next day. “The girl’s parents left her with the witchdoctor and
went away,” he said.
Insp Sokomuri said when the girl’s parents returned for her the next
day, she complained to them that she was raped.
The matter was then reported to police.
“We want to remind people that there are medical doctors out there and
sick people should be taken to them for a check-up instead of a
witchdoctor,” Insp Sokomuri said.
“Police have received reports of other similar cases before and we
have charged a few people for rape.”
Insp Sokomuri said some witchdoctors and priests were charged within
the last month for allegedly raping girls on the pretext of healing
their sickness.
He said it was sad that people opted to go to a witchdoctor instead of
a medical doctor for a check-up and to have their sickness cured.

Bahut der tak Rishi Muni Devtao aur Dharti Mata ki karuna bhari, priti se lapete huwe vachno ko sun kar Prabhu jaan gaye ki wey kitne bhaybheet hay papiyo ke atyachaar se.
Aasmaan se ek aiysi gambheer zordaar aakaashwaani huwi jis ko sun kar sabhi logo ka shok sandeh door ho gaya.
Prabhu ne ashwaasan diya ki daro mat, Hum aa rahe hay, Dharti par Avtaar le kar papiyo aur atyachaariyo ka naash karenge.

Jab Prabhu hamaare andar bas jaate hay to hamaare andar ke shatruwo ko naash kar ke hame sukh shanti anand pradaan karte hay !
