OM Shri Ganeshaaye Namaha ! OM Shri Saraswatey Namaha ! OM Bhur Bhwah Swah, Tat Savitur Vareniyam Bhargo Dewasye Dhimahi, Dhiyo yo Nah Prachodyaat !

Ram Ram, Namaste, Hare Krishna !

Apne apne Mata, Pita aur Guru Jan ko yaad kar lein !

RCM Balkand Doha 48 (Most of us from Fiji use Tulsikrit Ramayan which will be Doha 61)

Shiv Ji enjoyed the katha so much that he stayed with Agastye Rishi for a few days. When they are returning from the Ashram, Mata Sati ab Jagjanani nahi - unko Tulsidas Ji Daksha Kumari kaha.

Raja Daksha will be explained in future Dohas, in brief, he represents Ahamkaar, pride, ego. Mata Sati is his daughter, and is displaying similar traits. Abhimaan hay ki mera pati to sabse bada hay. Ye rishi to unka payr dhota hay, pooja karta hay. That is what is stopping her (and us) from getting the message of inner peace, of happiness, of Param Anand.

Agastye Rishi is the Pracharak, Purohit or Pandit.

Shiv Ji represents the Vairaagi (1 Below), Gyani Mahapurush.

Mata Sati is representing us, the Anuraagi (2 below), agyani man. Mata (us) is sitting in the Satsangh and not paying attention, quite similar to us sitting at religious functions – Man idhar udhar bhatak raha hay !

So far, this Katha is about concentration and paying attention. Soon we’ll see the consequences of not doing so.

LESSON
When someone is telling you something that is likely to be beneficial to you, it is imperative you pay attention and listen (not hear only).
When the teacher in your class is teaching - pay attention. The answers to the exam questions will be found in these deliberations.
When your parents/elders are sharing their wisdom - listen carefully. They have been through this road already and, in most cases, know what they are talking about.
When your children are seeking your help, listen to them and give them assurance. They seek refuge in their parents and feel let down if their concerns are left unaddressed.

Failure to do so may result in unhappiness, sadness and prolonged pain.

तेहि अवसर भंजन महिभारा। हरि रघुबंस लीन्ह अवतारा।।
पिता बचन तजि राजु उदासी। दंडक बन बिचरत अबिनासी।।

This is what Shiv Ji was listening to...Hari Vishnu ne Awadh mein Avtaar le liya hay. Pita ka Vachan maan kar Ayodhya ka Raj Paath Tyaag kar Udaasi vesh mein, saadharan vesh mein, Sadhu vesh mein, ab Dandak Bun mein ghoom rahe hay. Shiv Ji bhi Dandak Bun ke raaste Daksh Kumari Mata Sati ke saath apne dhaam Kailaash ko ja rahe hay.

दो0-ह्दयँ बिचारत जात हर केहि बिधि दरसनु होइ।
गुप्त रुप अवतरेउ प्रभु गएँ जान सबु कोइ।।48(क)

Shiv Ji Shri Ram Ji ke Param Bhakt Hay, Atishay Prem karte hay. Bahut din hue darshan nahi hua. Hriday mein bichaar rahe hay, soch rahe hay ki kya upaay kiya jaaye ki ek jhalak dekh lu. Aamne saamne daurd ke mil nahi sakte kyo ki gupt roop se Ram Ji leela kar rahe hay, pol khul jayega.

Hamare Guru Jan samjhaate hay ki, Shiv Ji ke man ki dasha jaanane ke liye – you have to visualise this scene :
Ladka ke family Ladki dekhne ke liye unke ghar aaye hay. Bahar aam perd (mango tree)  ke niche Ladka baitha hay. Kabhi dekhe nahi ek dusre ko. Ladki ka man utsukh hay ki ek baar thoda se dekh to le kaisa hay prospective dulha ji – saamne se aa kar dekh nahi sakti – log kya kahenge.
Obviously this is the old way...nowdays sab kaam tamaam ho jaye tab mummy-daddy to batate hay ki hum shaadi kar rahe hay !

Please excuse my mistakes, build on the good bits and enlighten those around you.

Muskuraate Raho

1.     Vairaag – The state of being unattached to and unaffected by any worldly feelings.

2.     Anuraagi Man. Anuraag is the love and affection we have for our loved ones, our possessions, assets, material things

3.     To understand the message hidden in these scriptures we have to go beyond the barriers of sex, race, religion, parenthood, etc. Think of all the characters as gender neutral. Every little episode has a message for us. It is not for anyone else.

4.     Satsangh – an exchange of information that is beneficial to you. The Pracharak, Purohit, Pandit Ji already knows it (hopefully) and is trying to enlighten us.  Agastye Rishi is doing it for the benefit of all present. Gyani log gyan ko sun kar apna jiwan ujwal kar lenge. Agyani abhimaani log sochte hay ki ye sab bak bak hay, baad mein dukh jhelna pardta hay.

5.     Shiv Ji’s Family – While we are discussing Shiv Ji, let’s quickly see what makes them so important, and how they relate to our families. This is the only family where everyone is worshipped – why ?
Shiv Ji  ki Bayl ki sawari hay (some call it cow) gale mein naag laptaye hay.
Mata Parvati and her many forms rides on a Tiger.
Ganesh Ji rides on a Mouse.
Kartike rides on a Peacock (mor).

A Peacock’s staple diet is the Snake. A Snake loves to eat a mouse.  A Tiger likes to eat the Bull.
To ensure the family remains poojniye and respectful, they keep their wishes (indriyan) in control. Everyone would love to eat the other one but they don’t.

Quite similar to our extended families. There may be a certain cousin, uncle, bhabhi, pato or saas, even damaad – that we may not get along with, but to keep the family’s harmony, we need to keep our wishes, anger, enmity in control.
